At Xantx you can have your LCD TV repaired, typical faults are described below.
Power supply faults
Most power supply faults can be repaired without buying a replacement PSU board. Replacement PSUs vary in price, some costing 10s of £s. We can offer a cost-effective service to PSU board replacement. We hold a small stock of common PSUs so turn-around times can be minimised and even done on a while you wait if we are able to put it on the bench immediately.
Screen back lights
Most back light faults are failure of the PSU that drives them, in some cases, this is part of the main PSU, in others is a separate PSU, both can usually be repaired.
The main remaining cause of a faulty back light is the failure of the lamps, off which there are two types.
LED screen back light repairs
LED back lit screens use several rows of white LEDs, each row having several LEDs. These LEDs can fail such that there are poorly lit areas of the screen or the whole screen is unlit.
Most TV repair businesses would deem a TV with a failed LED to be uneconomical to repair as the LEDs are the first item to be fitted to the screen unit so requiring it to be completely disassembled to make the repair.
We can replace the faulty LEDs with parts at a significantly cheaper price than replacing the TV or the screen, even if one could be located.
CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps)
CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) are fluorescent tubes 2mm to 3mm diameter and as long as the width of the screen. They are evenly spaced about 50mm apart. These were used in the early generations of flat screen TVs. They have been replaced by LEDs which are more economical to run and do not contain mercury. The main fault with these types of lighting was when the tubes broke. Replacing failed tubes was never viable, resulting in the TV being beyond economical repair.
Main Video board failure
Failure of the main Video board can give rise to many symptoms, including apparent PSU and back light failure. Due to the technology used on the Video board, they are the least repairable item so must be replaced. Prices vary with availability, but we hold a small stock.
Exposure to water

No electrical item should be exposed to water, but it can happen.
Exposure to a small amount of water may not permanently damage the set, however it should be taken to a qualified engineer who can assess the damage.
If the screen has been splashed with water, it can get between the filters and LCD panel that make up the screen unit causing a degraded picture.
A screen unit with damp in it can have either or both effects anywhere on the screen.
The damp can take months to dry out even then the layers that make up the unit can stick together leaving light patchy areas. We can remove the liquid ingress to the screen assembly and restore it to its original condition.
Broken / damaged screens.
A broken screen cannot be repaired and replacing it is not financially economical.
However, Xantx will pay for TVs with a broken screen as they are source of spare parts. The price paid reflects testing, disassemble, cataloguing, storage of parts which may subsequently not be used.
